The $30 billion North Carolina state budget includes funding for Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) to support faculty and staff salaries, athletics, infrastructure repairs and maintain the school’s quality academic programs, university officials said. The budget was acknowledged by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper Sept. 22.
ECSU Chancellor Karrie G. Dixon said the funding also makes way for essential resources that support students’ personal and professional growth.
“Your commitment to higher education is truly making a difference in the lives of our students and our community,” she said, in thanking the North Carolina General Assembly. “As our university serves all of northeastern North Carolina, an investment in ECSU is an investment in the region.”
One of the operational excellence objectives in the university’s “Forging Our Future” strategic plan, is developing and maintaining facilities that support academic growth and regional advancement. This budget reflects a $20 million increase for the university’s aviation building and $20 million for infrastructure repairs over the next three years. The state budget also authorizes $12.5 million in funding in the next few years to be applied to update classrooms and labs in Jenkins Science Hall and Dixon Hall.
